Previewing JP Paul's Habitat

Habitat in situ 800

The 2023 Habitat series features JP Paul's signature multi-layered, controlled-random abstract bases on recycled canvas combined with abstract-figurative drawings in pigment ink. This new series arose from a previous collaboration between JP Paul and his mentor, the late Arq. Carlos Perez Franco, who was profoundly influential in Paul's artistic career, including his architectural explorations, investigative journalism, and contemporary drawing techniques.

With decades of experience in alternative processes and the alchemic side of both fine art photography and contemporary arts, JP developed his own receptor coatings that allow him to use a variety of substrates and media for his work, thus aiding his layered approach and inherent tactile qualities. These latest pieces are, in essence, a culmination of experiments with analog painting, alternative processes, gel and screen transfers, monoprinting, ink mark-making and drawing elements aggregated seamlessly to represent Paul's interpretation of what blended mixed-media work can entail in the 21st century.
